In acting, branding can mean typecasting. This does not have to be a bad thing!
If you master your type, people will know you for your character and think of you when they need that character in a project. This leads to more work down the line and people will take you more seriously if you are an expert in one type of character versus a "jack of all trades, master of none."
How can you master your type?
Start practicing scenes and sides playing that type. Getting an acting coach is a great way to practice your type. You will get one on one attention and really be able to focus without distractions. You can also take audition technique or acting classes and focus on your type there.
If you can master a type of character and brand yourself, you are more likely to get those roles when they come along.
Find the roles that fit you instead of trying to be versatile and fit into every mold.
